Attorney and vice president of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina (LSV), Aleksandar Olenik, stated that the recent appearance of Miloš Pavlović—leader of the so-called “Students Who Want to Study” group—in the Student City without police protection mirrors the earlier event involving the arrest of activists from PSG and STAV in Novi Sad.
“The goal is to falsely accuse students of violence in order to mask the state’s aggression and Aleksandar Vučić’s campaign of terror against the people. It worked in Novi Sad—let’s not fall for it again,” Olenik posted on social platform X.
To recall, Pavlović and several of his associates visited a café in Student City the night before last, prompting a strong reaction from protesting students who gathered outside the venue.
At one point, two uniformed police officers arrived at the scene but, after communicating with someone, left without intervening or removing Pavlović and his companions, thus failing to prevent a potential confrontation.
As Pavlović exited the café, a group of students hurled beer at him and doused him and his colleagues with water. While passing through the crowd, Pavlović was also struck several times.
Eighteen people were taken into custody following the confrontation involving Milos Pavlovic in Student City, triggering ongoing demonstrations in front of the New Belgrade police station since last night.
The incident was strongly condemned by top government officials and members of the Serbian Progressive Party, including President Aleksandar Vucic and Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic, who controversially likened the protesting students to Nazi sympathizers.
