US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated today that China is preparing to potentially use military force in the Asia-Pacific region. “The threat posed by China is real and could become imminent,” Hegseth said during the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, the region’s largest security and defense forum.
He added that Beijing “seeks to dominate and control” the region and “practices daily” for a possible invasion of Taiwan.
According to Hegseth, China is clearly preparing to shift the balance of power in the Asia-Pacific.
In response, the United States has made the region a strategic priority and is realigning its defense strategy “to deter any aggression from Communist China,” the defense secretary emphasized.
