vA spontaneous protest erupted outside the New Belgrade Police Station after several students were detained following an incident in Student City, where a student identified as Milos Pavlovic—described by peers as someone simply “wanting to study”—was reportedly assaulted with cans and splashed with beer and water.

A line of uniformed officers blocked access to the station’s entrance. Among the crowd, a visible banner read “Engineering Students Against the System,” while chants of “Free the students!” echoed through the protest.

According to N1’s on-site reporter, the exact location of the detained individuals remains uncertain, though many protesters believe they are being held in the station due to its proximity to the dormitory area. Plainclothes officers were also spotted among the crowd.

“Let them all go!” shouted some of the demonstrators.

As of the latest official update, 11 individuals have been arrested in connection to the confrontation.

One protester took the megaphone and addressed the crowd, saying the suspects would be questioned by the Third Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade.

“We will not stand by while they arrest us. This is our most important fight—for our country. Keep going!” he declared.

Protesters expect more students to join as the night continues.

One student told N1 that earlier in the day, plainclothes police entered the dorm and escorted his colleague out, claiming it was for a “routine interview.”

“We believe he was taken to this station. That’s why we’re here, to support him. But the station chief told us he isn’t here and there’s no record of him being brought in. At the same time, government-affiliated media began broadcasting that he was arrested, and started labeling us—those fighting for democracy—as fascist thugs. This isn’t the first time, and it has to stop. We’re standing up for democracy, and we won’t back down,” the student said, adding that they plan to remain at the station until they learn where their friend is being held.
