Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a new law imposing fines of up to €5,500 (500,000 rubles) for selling energy drinks to minors, according to the official Russian legal information portal.
The legislation introduces financial penalties for violating regulations related to the retail sale of non-alcoholic energy beverages to individuals under the age of 18.
According to the law, individuals and legal entities can face fines of up to €5,500, while officials may be fined up to €2,200, as reported by RIA Novosti.
Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the State Duma, previously stated that the law is part of a broader legislative initiative aimed at protecting the health of younger generations.
State Duma deputy Aleksey Govyrin noted that some Russian regions had already implemented restrictions on the sale of energy drinks to minors. However, penalties were only enforced in select areas such as the Moscow region and Saint Petersburg — and were considerably lower than those now outlined in the new federal law.
