Speaker of the Serbian Parliament, Ana Brnabic, addressed the public regarding reports that anti-government demonstrators intend to file a lawsuit against President Aleksandar Vucic. The move reportedly stems from his visit to victims of a fire in North Macedonia on March 17.
According to the protesters, Vucic’s visit allegedly breached the Serbian Constitution and legal procedures.
Brnabic called the idea “absurd,” stating:
“Thanks to President Vucic’s leadership, Serbia now has some of the most advanced clinical centers in Europe. That allowed us to help our neighbors in North Macedonia during a crisis. So the real question is—how can anyone view that as a problem?”
She criticized the demonstrators, claiming they had gathered in front of the clinic during the president’s visit, disturbing patients and medical staff.
“These are the same people who harassed the medical facility with noise and shouting on that day. And now they want to accuse the president of wrongdoing? It’s difficult to take such behavior seriously,” she said.
Brnabic also addressed recent accusations made by opposition figure Marinika Tepic, labeling them as “strategically crafted misinformation.”
“She didn’t offer any real ideas—only more deliberate lies intended to smear President Vucic and his family,” Brnabic stated, adding that institutions have yet to respond to the claims, which she found concerning.
“These falsehoods have even extended to accusing foreign officials—like the president of Colombia—of drug trafficking. The damage this could cause to Serbia’s international relationships is significant,” she warned.
Brnabic reminded the public that it was during Vucic’s time as Prime Minister in 2014 that Serbia became part of Europol, contributing substantially to international efforts against organized crime.
“From that moment on, Serbia was recognized globally for its cooperation and progress in fighting crime. It is beyond strange that anyone would now accuse him of doing the opposite,” she added.
She also issued a formal warning to MP Milos Parandilovic for his comments that appeared to justify violence against reporters, calling them unacceptable in any democratic setting.
Additionally, she condemned opposition rhetoric targeting China, emphasizing the importance of maintaining respectful international relations.
Brnabic rejected claims that the ruling party is organizing so-called “counter-protests,” calling them fabrications.
“To be clear: SNS has never organized a counter-protest, and it never will,” she stated.
She also announced that President Vucic will appear on RTS the following day to directly respond to the accusations leveled at him.
“Vidovdan is a day we honor with pride—it represents our commitment and love for Serbia,” Brnabic concluded.
