Speaker of the Serbian Parliament Ana Brnabic took to X (formerly Twitter) to sharply criticize the group organizing a major protest on Vidovdan, June 28, claiming they are preparing what she described as an “ultimate blow to Serbia.”
“In a 36-page document filled with nonsense, arrogance, and shamelessness, they are announcing June 28 as the ‘Day of Decision,’ the ‘Day of Truth,’ and the ‘Turning Point,’” Brnabic wrote. “They are openly threatening all of Serbia—with blockades of roads, infrastructure, investment, and institutions.”
Brnabic alleged that the protest leaders want to halt life across the country, boasting in the document that “not only citizens will live in fear,” but also that foreign investors, “governments and embassies cooperating with this regime or considering investments” will also be intimidated.
“To all those who support the blockaders—what do you call this? Terrorism?” she asked rhetorically.
According to Brnabic, the protesters claim Serbia will lose €292 million in the first five days of blockades, and over €800 million if the disruptions continue—funds she says are vital for pensions, salaries, healthcare, education, and support for families.
“They even brag about driving out embassies and diplomatic missions—aiming for complete isolation of the country. They thrive on the idea that everyone will fear them,” she added.
Brnabic further accused the organizers of celebrating fear and chaos, asking whether it’s time to call their ideology what it is: “Terrorism? Fascism?”
“They’ve started shooting at us? We are not afraid,” Brnabic continued, assuring citizens that Serbia, under the leadership of President Aleksandar Vucic, “will never hand over our homeland to those who want people to live in fear.”
“Say no to blockade violence and terror!” she concluded.
