U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly defended Attorney General Pam Bondi, rejecting growing calls from some of his allies for her to step down due to frustration over the latest developments in the Jeffrey Epstein case.
In a strong statement posted online, Trump criticized those attacking Bondi, arguing that she should be allowed to continue her work without interference. “Let Pam Bondi handle her responsibilities,” he wrote, adding that attention should not be wasted on Epstein.
The backlash erupted after Bondi’s Justice Department, together with the FBI, released a report last week stating that no incriminating client list had been uncovered in connection to Epstein. The report also confirmed that, based on 300 gigabytes of examined data, there was no evidence of blackmail involving powerful individuals.
Despite previous claims by Bondi and others that the files might contain explosive revelations, the memo concluded there was nothing tying Epstein to the so-called “deep state” conspiracy theories popular among conservatives.
Prominent Trump supporter Laura Loomer and billionaire Elon Musk, a key campaign financier, were among those expressing disappointment. Loomer publicly criticized Bondi, while Musk shared—and later deleted—a post suggesting Trump was named in still-unreleased documents tied to Epstein.
Tensions have also emerged inside the administration. FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino reportedly clashed with Bondi following the release of the memo. According to CBS News, he did not show up for work afterward, and Loomer claimed he may be contemplating resignation.
Bondi had previously implied that she had access to Epstein’s “client list” but later clarified that she was referring more generally to case files and related materials.
Trump’s irritation with the renewed focus on Epstein was visible last week when he dismissed a reporter’s question on the topic with, “You’re still talking about that?” He later expressed frustration that people were focusing on “this creep” instead of more pressing matters.
The report reaffirmed the official conclusion that Epstein died by suicide in his New York jail cell in 2019, a finding long disputed by various figures in Trump’s circle.
Bondi maintains that her department followed the facts and that further speculation is unwarranted. Trump echoed that sentiment, urging his base to focus elsewhere and allow Bondi to complete her work without distraction.
