Today, President Aleksandar Vucic of Serbia shared plans to double the country’s investment in CERN. He emphasized the significant role that Serbian scientists and engineers will play in advancing global science.

President Vucic highlighted issues in Serbia’s education system that, if unresolved, could prevent the country from being self-sufficient in energy production. He stressed the importance of modular reactors, stating, “Without these reactors, we won’t be able to generate enough energy.” He mentioned that Serbia needs to create these nuclear programs affordably.

Vucic also mentioned that environmental policies have created a shortage of local experts and suggested increasing funding for higher education to address this problem. “Our ability to adapt will shape our future,” Vucic noted, underlining the need to increase the number of experts in nuclear energy in Serbia.

Referring to Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, Vucic called for better cooperation on nuclear research and energy development across Europe to enhance energy security and economic growth.

In closing, Vucic celebrated Serbia’s full membership in CERN as a historic achievement, promising that it will enhance national and European research and bring benefits in the future.
