The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade announced today that it has submitted to the Higher Court in Belgrade an expanded indictment against Vladimir and Miljana Kecmanovic, suspected of neglect and abuse of a minor.
Nenad Stefanović, the chief public prosecutor in Belgrade, stated that the expansion of the indictment followed the gathering of all crucial evidence in the ongoing trial before the Higher Court in Belgrade.
The charges against Vladimir Kecmanovic relate to severe crimes against public safety, and against Miljana Kecmanović for illegal production, possession, carrying, and trafficking of weapons and explosives.
Stefanović expressed strong suspicion that between April 30, 2022, and May 3, 2023, the accused severely neglected their responsibilities as parents.
Their minor child, using a firearm, tragically took the life of a security worker and nine students at Vladislav Ribnikar Primary School on May 3, 2023, and seriously injured a history teacher and five other students.
“As the trial has entered a phase closed to the public by order of the Higher Court in Belgrade, I am unable to share specifics of the expanded indictment.”
“However, I must point out that it was the parents’ reprehensible behavior that led to this unprecedented, tragic event at Vladislav Ribnikar School.” Stefanovic concluded.
The arrests were carried out by members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Criminal Police Directorate, on the orders of the Special Department for Combating Corruption of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Nis.
