Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade on Monday, where they discussed cooperation between the two countries. Vucic shared that Serbia is focusing on enhancing infrastructure, transportation, and energy links with Hungary.
Vucic further mentioned that a preliminary project for an oil pipeline between Serbia and Hungary has been completed.
“The feasibility study will be completed by the end of the year. This is of exceptional importance to Serbia as it diversifies the sources from which we obtain oil,” Vucic stated at a joint press conference.
Sulyok and Vucic stated that Hungary and Serbia cooperate excellently on the construction of the railway between Belgrade and Budapest.
On energy security, Sulyok remarked that Hungary and Serbia rely on each other. “Without Serbia, there is no energy security in Hungary, and without Hungary, the same applies to Serbia,” he stated.
Vucic also announced an upcoming declaration about establishing a high-speed railway connecting Hungary, Serbia, North Macedonia, and Greece, to be signed a day before the inauguration of the high-speed line from Novi Sad to Subotica.
The high-speed railway, will be stretching 1,683 kilometers from Budapest to Patras, Greece, symbolizes significant progress in regional connectivity.
Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok stated that his country will do everything possible to expedite Serbia’s accession as a full member of the European Union.
“We believe that long-term stability cannot be achieved in the Balkans without European integration,” Sulyok said.
Vucic thanked Hungary for its support on the European path.
He noted that he had discussed the war in Ukraine and the elections in the United States, scheduled for November 5, with President Sulyok.
Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and Speaker of the Assembly Ana Brnabic also met with the President of Hungary.
Previously, Vucic posted on his Instagram profile that this was President Tamas Sulyok’s first official visit to Serbia and that it represents “another important step in strengthening the friendly relations and cooperation between our countries.”
After the meeting between Sulyok and Vucic, a plenary meeting of the Serbian and Hungarian delegations led by the two presidents was planned.
