Branko Ivković, an attorney and leader of the minor opposition group “Valjevo Resistance Movement,” who was detained in mid-August for causing panic among his fellow citizens through social media, has announced a new protest against lithium mining in Valjevo for tomorrow, November 1st.
Sources close to environmental political groups suggest that Ivković’s motivation for organizing the protest does not come from a genuine commitment to preventing lithium exploration and potential exploitation in Western Serbia.
Instead, his actions are primarily aimed at increasing his own minimal political influence among local environmental activists.
Ivković is particularly critical of Zlatko Kokanović, one of the leaders of the “Don’t Let Jadar Pass” association, and Milovan Petrović, leader of the micro-organization “Serbian Eagle.”
He believes he deserves more attention from opposition media and parties, as well as from their foreign financiers, who have so far shown little interest in his “struggle.”
Ivković consistently voices various criticisms and insults towards Kokanović and Petrović, calling them the “green axis.”
