Human rights advocate Natasa Kandic has voiced support for the head of a major university in Belgrade after his recent remarks in Brussels sparked controversy. During his trip, the university official criticized domestic policies, a move that some saw as discrediting the country on the international stage.

Kandic, writing on social media, claimed that the university leadership has received strong backing from students and the public. “While there is still no justice for the deaths of 16 people, arrests of those who speak out continue on a daily basis,” she stated.

Her comments appear to reference unresolved cases from the past, contrasting them with what she suggests is ongoing pressure on dissenting voices. Meanwhile, the academic’s remarks abroad remain the subject of fierce debate at home, dividing public opinion between accusations of disloyalty and praise for speaking truth to power.
