Ana Brnabic, the Prime Minister, reproached former Belgrade Mayor Dragan Dilas, who has been under investigation for corruption, claiming that he had amassed a fortune over a span of ten years. Brnabic emphasized this point with a vivid illustration, stating that for the amount of money Đilas accumulated, a nurse would have to work 180,000 years, with the sum totaling ($677,464,550.00) U.S. Dollars.
“This example demonstrates the extent of corruption that our system was operating under, and the suffering our people endured during that period,” Brnabić said.
She stressed the importance of people understanding the consequences of certain political decisions on their lives, adding, “When you see how Đilas votes, you only need to vote the opposite. He is a politician who embodies the corruption that has deprived the people, not only financially but also in terms of social justice.”
Brnabić went on to support her claim by providing details on marketing income, which she attributed to Đilas, earned through advertising deals that always involved public assets. She pointed out that such behavior undermined the principles of democracy.
“We believe in a system of governance where there is an audit trail for every dinar spent. A system of governance where citizens can evaluate whether their leaders are responsible or not,” Brnabić concluded.
