The on-duty public prosecutor at the First Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade questioned a 26-year-old man after holding him for 48 hours on suspicion of unlawfully imprisoning and abusing his 27-year-old girlfriend.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the man, influenced by alcohol and drugs, waited for the woman outside her workplace. After she entered his car, he verbally and then physically abused her.
He locked the car doors to prevent the woman from escaping. He then drove her to a location where their friends noticed injuries on her face, which led them to call the police. During the questioning, the man denied the accusations against him, the office reported.
The public prosecutor has requested that the First Basic Court in Belgrade detain the suspect due to the risk that he might try to escape. “There are special reasons to believe that if he were free, he would try to interfere with the criminal process,” the prosecutor noted. Since the man has been previously found guilty of various crimes, he is considered likely to commit similar offenses again if released.
The office will take all necessary steps during the evidence collection process to fully understand the situation, after which they will decide on the next steps, the First Basic Prosecutor’s Office announced.
