The statement by Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar about the non-recognition of Kosovo’s declared independence is unchangeable and was clearly formulated in a declaration passed by Slovakia’s National Council in 2007.
Blanar, who was visiting Belgrade on Friday, told Politika in an interview that Slovakia, along with numerous other countries, does not recognize Pristina’s declaration of independence as it violates international norms.
“”Serbia has our full support on this issue. However, current developments in Kosovo, especially in the north, are what needs urgent attention,” Blanar added.
Events from the past few weeks are in contradiction to existing agreements and raise concerns about the international community’s double standards, which must be addressed constructively, but openly, he remarked.
“I think that, today, there is no doubt who is largely responsible for such developments,” Blanar commented, noting that Slovakia supported the Belgrade-Pristina negotiations.
