Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic issued a statement from The Hague, where she met with members of two Dutch parliamentary committees — the Foreign Affairs Committee and the European Affairs Committee.
During the talks, Brnabic discussed President Aleksandar Vucic’s visit to Russia in honor of Victory Day, commemorating the defeat of fascism.
“President Vucic went there to pay respect to the fallen. Modern-day politics cannot erase what happened 80 years ago. At that moment in history, that was where we belonged,” she said.
“They asked difficult questions. I gave equally direct answers and defended our sovereign positions. Still, the overall atmosphere was positive. They showed respect and interest in Serbia — even quoting Ivo Andric,” Brnabic emphasized.
She also noted that Serbia has managed to establish strong relations with the Netherlands and highlighted the expected arrival of several Dutch companies in the country.
“The Netherlands is a good example of a country where our economic ties are stronger than our political ones. It would be ideal if politics could keep pace with that,” she added.
Brnabic also announced the expansion of current investments.
“This is vital for us, especially considering the disruptions that have impacted our economy. In the end, the protestors and their movement have lost this battle,” Brnabic concluded.
