Brnabic: Without Vucic, a Unified Voter List Wouldn’t Exist

Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic stated today that the only reason a unified voter list exists is because of President Aleksandar Vucic, adding that, in her view, Solak’s media outlets should be ashamed for spreading misinformation on the topic.

“The entire point of these lies is to give the former authorities an excuse to avoid participating in the voter list oversight commission—something they clearly have no real interest in. For years they’ve misled citizens, claiming that the problem lies in the voter list itself. Now they’re in a position where they need to explain to the Serbian people why they refuse to be part of a commission that oversees it. And that’s where Solak’s propaganda machine steps in,” Brnabic wrote on social media, responding to an article by N1 titled: “Not only won’t he allow elections, he won’t allow access to the voter list either: Vucic has tailored it to his needs for the past 10 years.”

She emphasized that Vucic was the one who ensured the creation of a centralized voter registry to prevent individuals from voting multiple times across different municipalities, something she claimed was a common issue prior to 2012, during the time when members of the now-opposition were in power.

Brnabic explained that the list was later made available on the Ministry of Public Administration’s website, allowing any citizen to verify their registration and report irregularities. Additionally, the total number of voters was broken down by local governments, so that people could track any updates online. Today, she added, these numbers are updated every month and fully transparent.

She also noted that the government has now proposed forming a permanent Commission for Voter List Review and Oversight, made up of 10 experts—five chosen by the ruling coalition, three by the opposition, and two from civil society.

“Full access to the voter list will be granted to members of the Republic Electoral Commission as well as to those submitting electoral lists. And yet we keep hearing that ‘Vucic won’t give access to the list’? Before him, there wasn’t even a unified voter registry,” Brnabic concluded.
