The Faculty of Philology has tentatively decided to begin making up for the missed winter semester starting next week, while the specific schedule and format will be announced later, taking into account that student protests are still ongoing and continue to be supported by the Teaching and Scientific Council, stated Dean Iva Draskic Vicanovic.
In a statement to FoNet, she emphasized that students will be informed on time and added that the summer semester will also be compensated for afterward.
“I don’t see this as a change of stance or any kind of inconsistency, since the Council already expressed its support for the protests back in December and postponed classes with the clear intention to reschedule them,” said Draskic Vicanovic.
She also noted that the Council’s latest decision aligns with the University’s recommendations and is in the best interest of students, so that they do not lose the academic year.
According to the Faculty’s website, the Teaching and Scientific Council voted to start classes again in order to complete the school year by October 31.
Out of 243 council members who voted, 162 were in favor, 66 against, and 15 abstained. A minimum of 144 votes was needed for the decision to pass.
