Speaker of the National Assembly Ana Brnabic announced this morning on TV Pink that Dejan Vuk Stankovic will take over as the new Minister of Education in the upcoming Serbian government.
Stankovic is a full-time faculty member at the University of Belgrade’s Teacher Education Faculty, where he holds the title of associate professor. He teaches courses in Philosophy and Ethics, Media Education, and Education for Democracy and Civil Society. He is also well known to the public as a political analyst and frequent media commentator.
Born on January 22, 1973, in Belgrade, Stankovic completed both his primary education at “Starina Novak” school and secondary education at the First Belgrade Gymnasium. He studied philosophy at the University of Belgrade’s Faculty of Philosophy from 1991 to 1998, graduating with an impressive GPA of 9.25. His thesis, titled “On the Concept and Transformation of the Concept of Philosophy in Husserl’s Thought,” was supervised by Professor Milos Arsenijevic.
That same year, he enrolled in postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Philosophy, specializing in Ethics and Practical Philosophy under the mentorship of Professor Jovan Babic. He completed all coursework on time with a GPA of 9.80. His master’s thesis, “Morality and Law in the Philosophy of Herbert Lionel Adolphus Hart,” was defended in 2007. He earned his PhD in 2011 with a dissertation on “Practical Rationality and the Relationship Between Law and Morality in the Philosophy of John Mitchell Finnis.”
Throughout his academic career, Stankovic received scholarships from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment and participated in several projects with the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory. He has continued his education through programs at the Belgrade Open School, Alternative Academic Network, and the Democracy and Diversity Institute in Krakow, organized by the New School for Social Research (New York) and Jagiellonian University.
Between 2004 and 2006, he worked as an analyst for Marten Board International, a member of ESOMAR, specializing in market and public opinion research. Since 2011, he has been involved in the “History of Serbian Philosophy” project led by the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Belgrade.
Stankovic steps into his new role with extensive academic and analytical expertise, which is expected to support the further development of Serbia’s education system.
