Acting Foreign Minister Marko Djuric stated that he expects an important discussion tonight in Luxembourg about Serbia’s European future. Djuric will attend a working dinner alongside other Western Balkan foreign ministers at the invitation of EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.
“We’re preparing for talks about the current situation in our region, and I have several key messages. One of them is that Serbia firmly believes in its European future—but one that must be based on respect for our national interests, mutual respect, and consistent standards that apply equally to everyone,” Djuric said.
He emphasized that this includes equal treatment for Serbs in Kosovo, describing them as one of the most discriminated ethnic groups in Europe. He confirmed that the recent elections in Kosovo will also be part of the discussions.
Djuric added that tonight’s dinner will also focus on how to speed up reforms in Serbia so the country can align its institutions, economy, and regional cooperation with European standards as quickly as possible.
“We will also highlight Serbia’s role in preserving regional stability in an increasingly challenging geopolitical climate. While others try to exploit global tensions for selfish goals, Serbia is acting responsibly and constructively,” he said.
According to Djuric, Serbia has demonstrated its commitment to European values for more than a decade through responsible policies.
“We hope, believe, and want that effort to be recognized through the opening of new EU accession chapters. I’m confident that the goal of the incoming government will be for Serbia to join the EU as soon as possible,” he said.
Djuric concluded by stressing that Serbia brings value to Europe: “Seven million hardworking, brave, capable, and determined people — that’s what Serbia represents. We expect an equal seat at the table, and I say that with deep respect for the EU, but also with pride in our own state-building tradition and the contributions Serbia is making — and will continue to make — in the future.”
