Elon Musk has revealed his plans to launch a new political movement called the “America Party,” pledging to return personal freedoms to citizens and criticizing the country’s political elite for what he calls economic mismanagement.
Taking to X—the social media platform he owns—on Saturday, the billionaire entrepreneur and naturalized U.S. citizen condemned both the Democratic and Republican parties for what he described as collusion in irresponsible spending and corruption. “We are not living in a democracy but under a one-party system that’s driving America into bankruptcy,” Musk wrote. “The America Party is here to restore your freedom.”
This announcement comes in the wake of Musk’s recent public split with President Donald Trump, primarily over disagreements regarding federal spending and taxation.
While Musk did not provide detailed plans or a timeline for the full rollout, he suggested that the first major political initiative could take place during the 2026 U.S. midterm elections, when a significant number of Senate and House seats will be contested. For the movement to become a recognized national party, it must meet the criteria for political party committees as set by the Federal Election Commission.
In a follow-up post, Musk invoked a historical metaphor, referencing Epaminondas of Thebes and his unexpected victory over Sparta at the Battle of Leuctra, saying the new party aims to disrupt the political status quo through concentrated and strategic efforts.
By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!
When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.
Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom. https://t.co/9K8AD04QQN

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO initially hinted at creating a third party last month. His renewed commitment this week appears to be directly tied to his opposition to Trump’s massive fiscal legislation, which Musk has dubbed the “Big Beautiful Bill.”
