The highest-ranking officials of the European Union and leaders of 47 European countries will meet today in AP Photo / Denes Erdos Budapest at the European Political Community summit to discuss security challenges, including the war in Ukraine, conflicts in the Middle East, irregular migration, and economic security and connectivity.
Serbia will be represented at the summit by President Aleksandar Vucic. According to his office, he will address the summit at the opening and participate in the session on economic security. During the summit in Hungary, a series of bilateral meetings with European officials are also planned.
The topic of the first plenary session will be the major security challenges facing Europe, including Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the escalation of conflicts in the Middle East.
There will then be four separate sessions discussing migration, including irregular migration and its exploitation, economic security, and connectivity in energy, transport, IT, and global trade. The conclusions from these meetings will be presented at the second plenary session, followed by a press conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.
After the start of the war in Ukraine, EU leaders agreed in June 2022 to launch the European Political Community to bring European countries closer together, strengthen political dialogue, and foster cooperation among leaders to address common challenges and enhance Europe’s security, stability, and prosperity.
The summit will bring together senior EU officials and leaders from 47 countries, including the 27 EU member states, the Western Balkans, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Norway. The host of the event at the Puskas Arena will be Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
Albania and Denmark will host the next meetings of the European Political Community next year. Throughout the day, numerous bilateral and multilateral meetings will take place. This is the fifth meeting of the European Political Community.
