EU spokesperson Peter Stano stated that the issues surrounding education and healthcare within the Serbian system in Kosovo must be addressed solely through the Brussels dialogue.
Speaking to journalists in Brussels, Stano commented on the recent arrest of a Kosovo Serb, the director of a school in the north, for allegedly possessing illegal stamps brought into Kosovo. He reiterated that the European Union has been clear that the status of public services, including education and healthcare supported by Serbia, must be resolved through dialogue facilitated by the EU.
He also highlighted that the creation of the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities is a legal obligation for Kosovo authorities. Stano warned that unilateral actions restricting access to these services would negatively affect the daily lives of people in the Serbian community and could hinder Kosovo’s progress toward EU integration.
Stano emphasized that the EU-led dialogue can only proceed if both parties are committed to finding an agreement.
“This is not something the EU imposed; it was requested by both sides and supported by the EU and the UN resolution. We will host the dialogue as long as both sides are willing to engage, and as long as both are interested in EU membership. The Ohrid agreement last year linked the dialogue process with EU membership, so without dialogue, there is no membership,” Stano concluded.
