Serbia’s Foreign Minister, Marko Djuric, revealed that he was physically attacked a few days ago while walking with his three daughters, following a series of threats stemming from false reports about an alleged agreement to bring in foreign nationals.
“The attacker was a repeat offender from another town, under the influence of drugs at the time,” Djuric stated on social media platform X. “I reported the incident to the police and the prosecution so they can do their job – I did not go public with it until now.”
Djuric emphasized that he generally avoids drawing public attention to his private life but felt compelled to speak out due to the escalation in threats and misinformation.
“I’m not interested in playing the victim. Many of my colleagues and friends are dealing with far worse,” he added.
He also shared a video showing some of the threats and insults he has received online, describing them as a result of a “completely fabricated and repeatedly spread lie” about a foreign migration agreement.
“I don’t recommend watching unless you’re a psychiatrist or a prosecutor. It’s just one example of how lies and hatred are being spread,” Djuric said.
He stressed that the physical attack occurred in the presence of his daughters, aged nine, eight, and five, and expressed disappointment that public narratives have attempted to distort the incident for propaganda purposes.
“What hurts the most is the possibility that I’ll have to explain to my daughters why, for some people, the man who attacked us is seen as a victim – while no one even bothered to ask about the trauma they endured,” Djuric concluded.
