New floods struck the region of Girona in northeastern Spain, sweeping away approximately 30 cars in the town of Cadaques, Spanish media reported.

Early on Friday, a local journalist shared videos showing a torrent of water rushing down the streets and a pileup of cars blocking a bridge.

No casualties were reported in this latest episode of flooding to impact the country.

Last week, more than 200 people were killed, most in the Valencia area, marking one of Europe’s deadliest floods this century. The disaster sparked widespread anger at authorities for failing to issue emergency alerts sooner.

Catalonia’s fire service reported on X that the flooding in Cadaques during the early hours of Friday morning caused around 30 vehicles to pile up under a bridge, but thankfully, no one was injured or trapped.

Further dangerous weather conditions are anticipated for the region on Friday night.

The Catalonian meteorological service issued a rain warning for Alt Emporda, where Cadaques is located, from Friday evening until Saturday afternoon, cautioning that rain intensity might exceed 20 mm (0.7 inches) within 30 minutes.

Over November 7 and 8, Cadaques recorded 76.8 mm (3 inches) of rain, while more than 100 mm was logged in two nearby towns.

According to Aemet, Spain’s weather agency, rainfall from October 1 to November 5 was 72% higher than the typical amount for that period.

Experts noted that the rainfall, intensified by climate change, led to flash floods that trapped people in their cars.
