Today, German media reported that special units and investigators from Germany’s Federal Criminal Police stopped a potential terrorist attack aimed at the Israeli embassy in Berlin.
Heavily armed police special forces conducted raids in a house located in Bernau, Brandenburg, and in an apartment within a multi-story building in Sankt Augustin, North Rhine-Westphalia, according to the daily newspaper Bild.
Michael Rameler, a spokesperson for the federal prosecutor’s office, reported, “A police operation was carried out tonight in Bernau near Berlin and in Sankt Augustin near Bonn. In Bernau, a suspect was arrested for membership in a foreign terrorist organization. In Sankt Augustin, witnesses were questioned and potential evidence was secured.”

German authorities, with the help of a foreign intelligence services, tracked down a man considered not a threat when entering the country.
The counter-terrorism service intercepted threatening messages, which led to the conclusion that a Libyan member of the Islamic State (IS) allegedly planned to attack the Israeli diplomatic mission in Berlin, though it was not specified whether the attack would involve firearms or explosives.
There were also indications that after the attack, the suspect intended to flee to his uncle’s place in Sankt Augustin, and then abroad.
The federal prosecutor stated that it is still unclear if the uncle was aware of his nephew’s plans and intentions.
The suspected terrorist reportedly entered Germany in November 2022 and filed an asylum application in January 2023.
His application was rejected eight months later, on September 28, 2023, and he was supposed to be deported back to Libya, but that did not happen, and the Libyan has been living in Bernau since then.
