Goran Vesic has been urgently transferred to the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases in Sremska Kamenica due to a sudden worsening of his health, according to regional authorities.

Mile Jandric, the warden of the Novi Sad District Prison, confirmed the news to Tanjug.

As previously reported by Kurir, the warden notified the judge handling the preliminary proceedings and Vesic’s lawyer about the serious deterioration of his condition, which led to his immediate transfer to the hospital.

Novosti has reported that Vesic’s health sharply declined after six days of a hunger strike and refusing medical treatment.

To recap, Vesic resigned from his position as Minister of Construction following the tragic collapse of a canopy at the Novi Sad Railway Station, which resulted in 15 deaths and left two others critically injured.

Following the incident, Vesic, along with more than 10 others, was detained for questioning, and he was placed in custody by the Prosecutor’s Office. Vesic later announced he had begun a hunger strike.

However, some media outlets have claimed that Vesic’s health had already been in decline before the hunger strike, citing reports of him undergoing treatment for serious heart conditions.
