At least four people have been killed and 14 others injured in a drive-by shooting outside a nightclub in Chicago, according to local police.
The attack took place around 11:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday, when a dark-colored vehicle drove past the club and multiple gunmen opened fire into a crowd gathered outside. According to CBS News, the crowd had just exited an album release party for rapper Mello Buckzz.
Authorities said the car fled the scene immediately. As of now, no suspects have been taken into custody.
Emergency responders transported victims to various nearby hospitals. Police confirmed that two men, aged 24 and 25, and two women, aged 26 and 27, were pronounced dead. At least four other individuals remain in critical or serious condition.
Eyewitness Pastor Donovan Price described the aftermath as “absolute chaos,” telling Reuters: “From people screaming to blood on the streets to people laying on the streets… horrific. It’s something that you wouldn’t expect to find in the city. We have a lot of shootings, but nothing like this.”
Rapper Mello Buckzz, whose event had just concluded before the shooting, posted a heartfelt message on social media. “Prayers up for all my sisters — God please wrap your arms around every last one of them,” she wrote, adding, “Feel like everything just weighing down on me.”
Authorities are continuing their investigation and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
