Israel has suggested the possibility of launching a land assault on southern Lebanon, which could escalate its longstanding conflict with Hezbollah, the Shiite militant group based in Lebanon.

According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the goal of this potential operation is to destroy Hezbollah bases that threaten Israeli communities in the northern part of the country. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant emphasized the IDF’s commitment to minimizing civilian casualties.

“We will do everything we can to avoid attacks on civilians, especially given Hezbollah’s hostile actions over the past several months. This will be done by land, air, and sea,” Gallant stated.

The IDF has reportedly deployed ground forces, including tanks and armored vehicles, into southern Lebanon. Lebanese security sources indicate that Lebanese army units have retreated from the southern border due to rising tensions.

The planned military actions include gaining air superiority and using artillery to support ground troops and target specific areas along the border villages. Israeli forces have also conducted targeted airstrikes in Beirut against Hezbollah commanders.

Hezbollah’s Deputy Commander, Naim Qassem, stated the group would not surrender. “Bring it on! We can take everything you throw at us,” Qassem declared. He reminded listeners of Hezbollah’s historical military engagements with Israel, notably the conflict in 2006.
