The Association of Serbian Journalists (ANS) has publicly condemned a violent incident involving journalist Branka Lazic, who was allegedly assaulted while covering a protest for the news outlet Informer. According to the ANS, Lazic was harassed by a group of demonstrators who reportedly spat at her, sprayed her with pepper spray, shouted threats and insults, and attempted to stop her from recording. The organization described the event as an intentional act of intimidation aimed at silencing the press.

The statement also criticized the reaction of journalist Mladen Savatovic, who reportedly dismissed the situation by asking Lazic why she had shown up if she knew what to expect. ANS said his response displayed a complete lack of professional solidarity. Similarly, TV host Danica Vucenic came under fire for remarks that appeared to minimize the seriousness of the assault, questioning whether Lazic had actually been physically harmed.

ANS emphasized that such behavior — both from aggressors on the street and from fellow journalists — contributes to a climate of hostility toward the media. The group said that if these actions go unchallenged, they may lead to more serious violence in the future. The association concluded that this was not only an attack by individuals in the crowd but also by those who chose to remain silent, reiterating that it will continue to speak out and push for accountability.
