President Zoran Milanovic of Croatia has declared that he will not direct the Croatian armed forces to engage in any operations that could lead to war. Furthermore, he emphasized his commitment to Croatia’s interests over pressures from Washington and Brussels.
In a Facebook post reported by the media outlet Index, Milanovic stated, “As long as I am President and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, no Croatian soldier or officer will be sent on missions that may risk endangering this country’s national security or drag it into war.”
He also mentioned that Croatia would continue to support its allies in NATO. “My allegiance is to the Croatian people, and not to any other country,” he declared.
This stance has caused tension with Croatia’s Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, who criticized Milanovic’s approach, suggesting that it could isolate Croatia internationally and endanger its standing in NATO.
