The Ministry of Interior of Montenegro has reported the arrest of three individuals connected to an attack on a journalist from the newspaper Pobjeda. Below is the statement in full:
“Last night in Podgorica, the editor of the crime section for Pobjeda was initially subjected to verbal abuse, followed by a physical assault, outside a hospitality venue. Three individuals have been detained in connection with this incident.
The journalist was first targeted with offensive and threatening language by three individuals while standing outside the establishment.
Shortly afterward, two of the journalist’s family members arrived at the scene, and they too were verbally and then physically attacked by the same individuals. Additionally, the attackers proceeded to smash the vehicle’s windshield and continued to damage the car by hitting it, causing further destruction.
Following these events, officers from the Podgorica Security Department arrested the three individuals on suspicion of violent conduct, affecting three victims.
The police administration reiterates its commitment to enhancing journalist safety, emphasizing that protecting journalists is a key priority in our work. Through this swift response, we send a strong message that any form of threat or aggression against journalists will be taken seriously to ensure their security and freedom to work.”
According to the Police Directorate, as reported by Vijesti, the journalist sustained injuries to her head.
