The parliamentary opposition has announced it will organize a protest in Belgrade if the demands presented by citizens during yesterday’s protest are not met by the 48-hour deadline, which expires this evening. Radomir Lazovic, co-chair of the Green-Left Front and member of parliament, has confirmed that the protest will take place on Wednesday.

“The protest will be on Wednesday. If you want people to be able to come and for a large protest to happen, you have to make room for it. We believe there should be a big protest in Belgrade, as similar tragedies threaten both Belgrade and other cities in Serbia where the SNS has carried out these major projects,” said Lazovic in the show “Iza vesti.”

As he stated, the demands are the same as those made in Novi Sad.

“These are the dismissal of responsible officials, opening of contracts, implementation of extraordinary controls, and the resolution of this crisis caused by decades of mismanagement of our country,” Lazovic noted.

Yesterday, a meeting of representatives from all opposition parliamentary parties was held. The opposition also condemned what they referred to as “the violence by paid thugs organized by the authorities two days ago in Novi Sad,” which they claimed falsely portrayed peaceful protests by tens of thousands of citizens as violent.

“Only a few paid thugs destroyed the City Hall building, which the police clearly did not protect intentionally, nor did they arrest the perpetrators. Instead, the police arrested those who had no connection to the violence. Therefore, we demand the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the reconstruction project of the Railway Station and the release of those who were detained at the protests without any valid reason, such as Goran Ješić, who reacted humanely to protect a young man from unaccredited individuals taking him in an unknown direction, as well as other activists.”

Finally, the opposition reiterated its call for the authorities to fulfill the citizens’ demands in honor of the innocent victims who lost their lives.
