Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has suggested that only a direct meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump could bring an end to the conflict in Ukraine.
Speaking in an interview published Thursday on Ultrahang’s YouTube channel, Orban referred to Trump as “a leader who stands for peace” and cast doubt on the true intentions of Western powers and Ukraine’s leadership.
“Everyone talks about peace, yet the war drags on. That tells me someone isn’t being honest,” Orban said, accusing unnamed parties of wanting the war to continue for their own benefit.
He insisted that genuine progress could only happen if the leaders of Russia and the United States sit down for discussions. “Peace talks won’t succeed without both presidents at the table,” he said. Orban added that such a dialogue could also pave the way for broader agreements on global matters like trade and disarmament.
