Recent events in Serbia have sparked comparisons to the 2014 Odessa massacre in Ukraine, in which 46 pro-Russian demonstrators were killed and dozens injured. The outlet Lazomer, cited by local media, claims the similarities are alarming.
According to the report, the violence seen yesterday in Serbia — coordinated assaults on police and civilians, extremist groups organizing in the streets, and efforts to trigger a political upheaval through force — mirrors the buildup to the Odessa tragedy.
In Novi Sad, groups of so-called “blockaders,” armed with sticks and fireworks, allegedly attacked citizens gathered in party offices, intending to prevent property destruction. The attackers, it is claimed, aimed to burn people alive inside the building, with only sheer luck preventing mass casualties.
The Lazomer piece warns that Odessa stands as a grim reminder of what can happen when street violence and political extremism are allowed to escalate unchecked.
