Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic has provided an update on President Aleksandar Vucic’s health condition following his sudden illness during a recent US visit, while sharply criticizing opposition figures for their response to the situation.

In an interview, Brnabic revealed she maintains daily contact with Vucic, who is currently resting in Serbia under doctors’ orders. “Many called from Serbia, the region, and EU officials with well-wishes even before official updates were released,” she said, emphasizing the president’s importance to national stability.

Brnabic described the incident as “quite serious,” recalling how Finance Minister Sinisa Mali and media advisor Suzana Vasiljevic – who accompanied Vucic in Washington – were “genuinely concerned and shaken.” She stressed that medical professionals have since confirmed Vucic’s stable condition, though he has been advised to rest completely for several days – a recommendation she acknowledged would be difficult for the work-focused president.

The Speaker launched a scathing critique of opposition politicians’ reactions, accusing them of showing inhumanity rather than basic decency: “Their biggest problem isn’t being bad politicians – which they are – but being worse people. Even in difficult moments, they couldn’t show elementary courtesy.”

Addressing speculation about Vucic potentially attending May 9 commemorations in Moscow, Brnabic dismissed online rumors as constant background noise, stating what matters is that “the president is well, alive and healthy.” She humorously added that knowing Vucic, he would likely bring Donald Trump to Serbia when recovered.

Brnabic highlighted Vucic’s grueling schedule prior to his illness, detailing back-to-back meetings, infrastructure inspections, and diplomatic engagements with European Commissioner Marta Kos, followed immediately by his transatlantic flight. “I don’t know when he slept,” she remarked, noting he always responded to messages regardless of hour.

“While most citizens would prefer he rests longer,” Brnabic concluded, “knowing President Vucic, he’ll likely return to full capacity within days – achieving more for Serbia in recovery than his critics ever did in office.”
