The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade has started an investigation against M.M. (49) because they think he forced a 24-year-old woman, with whom he had been in a long-term emotional relationship, to have a sexual act on October 29th this year in Obrenovac.
The start of the inquiry has led to charges against the accused for the crime of rape, for which the Criminal Code sets a prison sentence of 5 to 12 years, as announced by the prosecutor’s office.
During the hearing at the Higher Court Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, the suspect refused to admit to doing the crime.
Following the hearing, the prosecution recommended to the initial hearing judge at the Higher Court in Belgrade that the accused be held.
This measure aims to stop him from affecting witnesses and from possibly doing similar crimes soon.
The prosecutor’s office provided reasons to suspect stating that on October 29th, in the early morning hours at the Zabran picnic area in Obrenovac, M.M. made the victim have a sexual act against her will.
After she clearly refused, he knocked her to the ground and repeatedly kicked her in the head and body, causing physical injuries. After the event, the accused sent threatening messages to the victim, offering her money and benefits to stop her from reporting him.
It has been shown that M.M. is a police officer in Obrenovac. He had also been reported for domestic violence against a former partner in 2011.
