Katarina Popovic, a professor from the Faculty of Philosophy, made a highly controversial comment that many interpret as a veiled call for the overthrow of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
“Vidovdan is turning into something entirely new, and I believe it should come to represent a fresh chapter. It was once the day Milosevic was handed over — perhaps this time it can mark the beginning of closing the chapter on another authoritarian leader. We’ll see how, but I’m confident it will happen,” Popovic stated.
The comment has drawn criticism from various sides, with accusations that such statements only serve to escalate political tensions during an already sensitive period.
