In a country where national TV stations rarely give airtime to opposition voices and public political debates are nearly nonexistent, it’s newsworthy when members of the ruling party and the opposition actually engage in a live debate. The twist? It didn’t happen in Serbia.
Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Djuric, and the Deputy President of the Freedom and Justice Party, Borko Stefanovic, appeared together on the BBC’s podcast World Questions, alongside political scientist Filip Balunovic and journalist Danica Ilic.
The topic of discussion: Can protests lead to a change of government in Serbia?
Stefanovic posted on social media platform X:
Učestvovao sam u debati koju je organizovao BBC i imao priliku da se suočim sa Markom Đurićem – naprednjačkim prodavcem magle i ministrom spoljnih poslova.
Govorio sam istinu. On je pokušavao da je zameni frazama.

“I took part in a debate organized by the BBC and faced off against Marko Djuric — the SNS fog-seller and current foreign minister. I spoke the truth, he tried to replace it with empty phrases,” he wrote, sharing a short clip from the show.
The full episode is available on the BBC World Service YouTube channel. Sadly, to watch a real debate between Serbia’s government and opposition, you’ll have to tune in to the British public broadcaster — not one from Serbia.
