Doug Emhoff, the husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, faces accusations of physical assault from an ex-girlfriend during the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.

The woman, a New York-based attorney, reportedly called her friends immediately following the incident. She was very scared and kept saying, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry,’ as she recounted the events to a friend, according to the Daily Mail.

One of her friends, a businessman from New York, recalled receiving a late-night call from her. She was sobbing, which made him worry for her safety. He said, “I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know whether to call the French police. I couldn’t get a hold of her after calling back.”

The argument allegedly started when Emhoff saw the woman speaking with another man, which led him to believe she was flirting—a thing he didn’t really like.

The woman also mentioned to her friends several other instances of mistreatment throughout their short three-month relationship.

Adding to the scandal, there are additional claims concerning Emhoff, including an allegation that he impregnated a nanny who subsequently suffered a miscarriage.
