Srdjan Barac, an advisor to the Serbian Minister for Labor, Employment, Veteran, and Social Affairs, reported on Monday that Serbia issued 52,185 work permits to foreigners in 2023, with about 67,000 requests already received this year.
Speaking at a press conference about labor market liberalization and human trafficking, Barac predicted that 2024 might set new records for the number of work permits issued.
Barac stated the government’s commitment to simplifying employment procedures and making them easier for both foreign and local employees.
He noted that all workers, regardless of their nationality, should receive the same wages, health insurance, and payments as their counterparts.
He also shined a light on the risks of exploitation faced by migrant workers, urging the community to fight for fair and secure working conditions for everyone.
