Russia has begun mass-producing mobile shelters designed to offer protection from a wide range of threats, including radiation, explosions, shrapnel, debris, hazardous chemicals, and fire, according to the research institute of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations. These shelters, resembling reinforced shipping containers, are intended to safeguard civilians in times of crisis.
The standard unit is designed to house 54 people, with the option to expand the capacity if needed, the institute revealed.
As the war in Ukraine progresses into what some are calling its most perilous stage, Russian forces are making rapid advances in the eastern regions of Ukraine, marking the fastest pace of progress since the early days of the conflict in 2022. Meanwhile, the West has permitted Ukraine to launch missile strikes on Russian territory.
In response, Moscow has adjusted its nuclear doctrine to allow for a nuclear counterattack if Ukrainian forces use Western-made non-nuclear weapons against Russia.
“The use of nuclear weapons is an extreme measure, but the update to our doctrine was necessary to reflect the current political situation,” said Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Kremlin.
