Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council, stated today that the West should accept Russia’s victory in the war in Ukraine and begin negotiations to end it.

Shoigu argued that the West had attempted to use Ukraine to deal a strategic blow to Russia but failed in that objective, as reported by Reuters.

“Now, with the situation on the ground of military operations not favoring the Kyiv regime, the West is faced with a choice—continue to finance this and destroy the Ukrainian population, or recognize the current reality and begin negotiations,” Shoigu said. He served as Russia’s defense minister from 2012 until May of this year, when he was replaced by Putin.

Shoigu accused Ukraine of “nuclear terrorism,” alleging that Kyiv had planned to seize the Kursk nuclear power plant in Russia, and that it continues to launch attacks on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, which is under Russian control.
