Borko Stefanovic, the deputy leader of the opposition Party of Freedom and Justice, stated that it is impossible for Serbia and the region to join the European Union (EU) with leaders like Aleksandar Vucic in power.
According to Stefanovic, such leaders do not prioritize the well-being of citizens or the use of national resources in the country for public benefit. Instead, they take advantage of these resources as leverage during their public interactions and appearances with international officials, as reported by the SSP.
During a meeting with Polish officials in Warsaw, Stefanovic asserted that only a free and democratic Serbia could protect its citizens from the corruption and state sell-offs driven by the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
Stefanovic believes Poland’s involvement, its EU presidency, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s upcoming visit to Belgrade are crucial to stopping the Serbian Progressive Party’s actions, which, in his view, trade away Serbia’s interests for empty promises of future EU membership.
Stefanovic pointed out the importance of Poland’s increasing influence in Europe as an opportunity for Serbia to reestablish its relationship with the EU.
He suggested this could be achieved by aiming to align with the Union’s original foundational principles rather than the corrupt dealings of the current government.
