The President of the National Assembly and Vice President of the Serbian Progressive Party, Ana Brnabic, stated today that it is not the right time for new elections because Serbia, as she says, has many important tasks to complete by 2027, including finishing the Expo project.
Brnabic said that the Serbian Progressive Party works hard to always be prepared for elections, strengthening both its infrastructure and internal party work, describing this as “elementary party culture.”
But do we plan elections right now? I have not seen that, and personally, I do not think it would be good because Serbia has so many things to accomplish by 2027 – Brnabic said in an interview for K1 television.
She pointed out that Serbia is a confirmed host of the World Expo 2027, and that we need to welcome the world and show how much Serbia has changed and what our strengths are.
According to her, Serbia needs to continue working on a range of important energy projects, emphasizing that these are long-term tasks that responsible government must address starting today.
Brnabic also mentioned that the National Assembly is about to adopt a new budget, which, according to her, will result in additional wage increases and more funding for capital infrastructure, recalling that the goal is for the average salary to be 1,400 euros and the average pension 650 euros by 2027.
This requires huge daily effort. Every country, in addition to a responsible government, also needs a responsible opposition and a responsible civil society. In our Parliament, people always point fingers at who the murderer is, who the thief is, how much the president’s pants cost, but we are here to discuss the essential issues that are important for our citizens – said Brnabic.
When asked about the importance of President Vucic’s talks with newly elected US President Donald Trump, Brnabic said this was of enormous importance for Serbia. She also mentioned that certain media outlets have acted like opposition political parties, keeping secret the fact that Vucic spoke with Trump, who was accompanied by Elon Musk and Kris Rudik.
These are incredibly important things – that our country has reached these global heights, that we are at that level, and that we are this important – said Brnabic.
She added that, on the other hand, these media outlets were focusing on whether it was true that Vucic was one of the top 15 world leaders with whom Trump spoke, stating that, due to political divisions, often artificially created, the essence and point are being lost.
Even if they are right, that he was twentieth, thirtieth, or hundredth, the essence is that the President of the Republic of Serbia spoke on the phone with the elected President of the United States. These are political spins that are harmful to our country – said the President of the Parliament.
She also noted that the media did not mention that when Vucic arrived in Novi Sad, where protests were taking place, he first lit a candle for the victims in Novi Sad.
Nor did they mention that we were in Kovilj for a seven-day memorial for Grandpa Djordje and his two granddaughters. Unfortunately, a whole section of our society watches and does not know the true story. Then come the political manipulations – said Brnabic.
She emphasized that Serbia today is a completely different country than it has ever been and occupies a geostrategic position that is exceptionally unique and unusual for a country of its size and population.
Aleksandar Vucic has succeeded in this, and now we all must see, if we are even remotely responsible politicians, regardless of whether we are in power or in the opposition, how we can use this for the further growth of our country and to improve and raise the quality of life of our citizens – said Brnabic.
She believes that Vucic’s conversation with Trump is particularly important for Serbs, Roma, and non-Albanian populations in Kosovo and Metohija, who, according to her, are under pressure and deprived of basic human rights.
The direct contact between the President of Serbia and the President of the US completely changes our position in terms of peace and stability, but especially for our people in Kosovo and Metohija – said Brnabic.
She added that this conversation is also crucial for potential new investments in Serbia and expressed hope that it could open the door for the arrival of the company “Tesla” in Serbia.
