Serbian National Assembly President Ana Brnabic has publicly mocked a new directive adopted by student protesters, which calls for extraordinary parliamentary elections to be called by May 15 and held on June 29. In a social media post, Brnabic sarcastically praised the protesters’ political maneuvering while highlighting contradictions in their stance.
The directive, labeled 134-25.0, demands that President Aleksandar Vucic—whom protesters previously refused to engage with—schedule snap elections. Brnabic pointed out the irony of protesters now seeking his involvement after months of rejecting dialogue. She also criticized their plan to form an independent electoral list of “people of integrity,” comparing it to the now-defunct G17+ party, rebranded as “Initiative 60.”
Brnabic accused the protesters of blatant hypocrisy, noting their violation of laws prohibiting political activity in educational institutions. She dismissed opposition figures like Djilas and ProGlas as irrelevant to this new strategy, quoting the directive’s ultimatum: “The only acceptable support for students will be backing this list and boycotting other parties.”
The Assembly Speaker concluded by lambasting the protesters for their lack of political acumen, disregard for educational principles, and failure to uphold their own demands for dialogue. “Bravo to the protesters—they’ve proven this was always about politics,” she wrote, sarcastically applauding their mishandling of strategy and alliances.
