Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi to discuss key challenges and opportunities in Serbia’s EU accession process. The talks focused particularly on reforms and implementation of the European Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
In a statement posted on Instagram, Vucic emphasized Serbia’s full readiness to accelerate reforms, stating: “We’re doing this not because of bureaucratic requirements, but because we believe these reforms bring better lives for our citizens.” He described the Growth Plan as an opportunity to boost economic development, strengthen institutions and bring Serbia closer to the European Union in practical, tangible ways that citizens can feel in their daily lives.
Vucic expressed confidence that through serious work, responsibility and genuine partnership with the EU, Serbia could capitalize on the current momentum and enter a new phase of its European integration process. The meeting comes as Serbia continues its EU accession negotiations, with particular focus on implementing necessary reforms in rule of law and economic policy areas.
The discussion highlights ongoing efforts to advance Serbia’s EU membership bid while addressing key requirements in the accession process, with both sides demonstrating commitment to moving the integration process forward.
