Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has strongly criticized the recent attack on the home of opposition figure Dragan J. Vucicevic, comparing the tactics to those used in Nazi Germany.
Vucic expressed serious concern about the growing trend of political violence, stating: “This shows things have gone too far. First they targeted [Belgrade Mayor] Vesic’s home, now Dragan’s. Who do these people think they are, coming to someone’s private residence? This kind of thing only happened in Hitler’s Germany.”
The president revealed he was the only one who seemed alarmed when similar attacks occurred against Vesic, while others in his party appeared unconcerned. Regarding the latest incident, Vucic rejected initial police reports that downplayed the seriousness, saying: “This isn’t just about paint balloons. When the same color appears at both crime scenes, it’s clearly organized. Next time someone might come armed.”
Vucic ordered Serbian police to quickly find those responsible, warning: “These criminals think they can decide people’s fates. That’s an extremely dangerous message.” His comments come during rising political tensions in Serbia, with opposition members reporting increased harassment and property damage.
The attack on Vucicevic’s home involved paint projectiles similar to those used in a previous attack on Belgrade Mayor Vesic’s residence. Police are investigating both cases, though no arrests have been announced yet.
