Ana Brnabic, the Speaker of the Serbian Parliament, stated that the recent blockade of the national broadcaster RTS constitutes a criminal act. Citing Article 149 of the Criminal Code, she explained that anyone who unlawfully disrupts or prevents the broadcasting of radio or television programs could face a fine or up to one year in prison.

Speaking on TV Pink, Brnabic said it is her duty as Parliament Speaker to highlight this violation and stressed that responsible institutions must act accordingly.

She expressed concern that in the version of Serbia envisioned by the protesters, freedom of the press, speech, and thought would be at risk if they ever came to power.

Brnabic also condemned what she described as targeted harassment of women by demonstrators. She mentioned specific cases, such as RTS journalist Nikolina Rakic, whose phone number was reportedly shared online, Jelena Baranin, who was brought to tears, and Vesna Radosavljevic, who she claims is being subjected to severe mistreatment.

Calling the protesters “cowards” for focusing their aggression on women, Brnabic said their actions have little to do with student demands and are instead aimed at seizing political power outside democratic processes.

Quoting President Aleksandar Vucic, she said the demonstrations are just a cover for a deeper political agenda and criticized the protest tactics as driven by hatred and the desire to intimidate opponents.
