The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) has emerged with 50.16% of the vote and secured 14 seats in the local election in Kosjeric, while the opposition coalition “United for Kosjeric” took 47.62%.
At the polling location where voting was repeated, SNS received 197 ballots, whereas the opposition secured 153.
Just over two weeks ago, results at the same station showed a different picture — the opposition had led with 220 votes, while SNS trailed with 125. President Aleksandar Vucic described the reversal as “an astonishing shift in voter sentiment.”
“Not long ago, opposition candidates held a clear lead at that voting site. Today, we won by a strong margin — something that’s never happened there before,” Vucic told Informer.
According to him, the opposition saw a drop of 72 votes, while the SNS gained 72 more. He attributed this outcome to what he called public rejection of ongoing protest actions.
News reports highlighted that citizens may have responded to weeks of disruptions and unrest by supporting the ruling party at the ballot box.
